Alzheimer & Dementia Care

Our Special Care Unit is filled with people who are just like everyone else.  They raised families, held jobs and had hopes and dreams for the future.  The devastation of Alzheimer's Disease or dementia may change the dreams and lifestyle, but it does not change the basics.  They are people needing love, dignity and care.  Grand View's Special Care Unit provides all of these.  Plus, the unique setting is designed to allow independence, safety and individuality.

Special bonds develop between staff, residents and families.  With the help of families and friends, we get to know each resident and their past and are able to focus attention on recognizing each resident as an individual with a unique heritage and special gifts.  This is what makes our individualized and innovative type of care for people with Alzheimer's and other dementias a success at Grand View.

The Unit is the result of years of research and experience.  The interior is in a circular configuration to encourage residents to walk, and prevent a sense of being lost in a dead end hall.  Twenty four hours a day, our specially trained and experienced staff helps residents with personal cares, medical, nutritional, social and spiritual needs, and a wide array of planned recreational activities.  Life is relaxed in this unit, and is directed by the resident.

Much time is spent just having fun, and smiles are a common sight in the Special Care Unit! Putting together puzzles, playing cards or board games, making crafts, singing familiar songs during music group, gardening in warmer weather, playing sports such as bowling, catch or croquet are only a few of the fun things we do.  Residents love visits from pets, and therapy dogs visit frequently, plus other pets and farm animals are often brought in by visitors and staff.  We have a great group of volunteers who visit and reminisce with residents.  Familiar activities such as baking, cooking, peeling potatoes, sweeping, doing dishes--all the things that residents did in their own home are done in our fully functional kitchen located on the Alzheimer's Unit.

We have religious activities such as Bible study, church services and communion provided by area clergy and lay clergy. We also have a sun porch which overlooks a creek and a wooded area where residents can relax or visit with friends and family.  In warmer weather, there is a fenced-in patio with a garden, flowers, and patio furniture.  Residents enjoy the sunshine and scenery. This is a setting that truly speaks to the heart.

And, when residents just want to lounge, we have plenty of soft, comfy recliners for relaxing and napping.

Skilled Nursing Care

Grand View’s skilled staff will always go one step further than is required to deliver the best care possible.

Our staff is continually trained in new technologies and procedures.  They are provided with the latest equipment to help them provide state of the art care.   But, they never forget that the best care is warm and personalized care.  This care creates strong bonds between staff and residents.  These bonds allow our staff to know residents’ needs, likes and individual personalities.  These bonds inspire our staff to do their best, bringing smiles where there were none; giving hugs when comfort is needed; encouraging when the path seems too long; lending a helping hand when another’s hands are feeble; finding ways to ease another’s pain; providing care with dignity; having fun with lots of good fashioned laughter.

You can be assured that you will receive state of the art health care, delivered by skilled and knowledgeable professionals who truly care, and all of this in a home-like environment.  Where you live does impact how well you live

We are designated as a teaching site for Western Wisconsin Technical College’s Certified Nursing Assistant program and a clinical experience site for nursing students at Western Wisconsin Technical College. Contact the director of nursing for more information by calling (608) 989-2511

Hospice Care

Grand View Care Center has contracts with local hospice care organizations. Placement arrangements can be made between your hospice provider and Grand View's Social Services Staff.

Hospice care is service and care for terminally ill patients and their families. Generally this includes pain relief and support services, physician and nursing services coordination, physical care, therapy, and counseling. To be eligible for hospice an individual must be diagnosed as terminally ill.

The goal of any hospice care program is not to cure, but to provide comfort and maintain the highest possible quality of life for as long as life remains. The focus is not on death, but on compassionate specialized care for the living. Our interdisciplinary team provides support for the whole person and those who are sharing the person's journey.

Therapies

Grand View offers Physical, Occupational and Speech therapy for our residents and for outpatients from the community through in-house contracted services.  We were very careful to select a company that shares our goals of helping residents function at their highest ability level.

Grand View’s therapy and rehabilitation services are provided by Achieve Therapy Solutions, from Holmen.  Achieve is staffed with physical, occupational, and speech therapists who are dedicated to providing unparalleled expertise in rehabilitation services.

Excellent patient outcomes and satisfaction are the hallmarks of Achieve’s commitment to quality care. They play important role in our rehab team consisting of the resident family, therapy department, physician, and Grand View Staff.

They have been instrumental in the planning of our new therapy addition. We are very happy to have this young and progressive company as part of our interdisciplinary team. With the help of these therapists, we Achieve results for our residents!

We are proud of the hope and success that this team of professionals make possible.  In the past years, many of our residents were able to return to their home after coming to Grand View for rehabilitative services.  That is a fact and we are proud of our success stories!

Restorative Therapy

When your therapy from a licensed therapist is complete, or physician ordered services from licensed therapists are not necessary, Grand View offers rehabilitative services through our nursing department. These services are considered part of your daily care and provided at no additional cost.   We have a full time rehabilitative aide on staff to provide residents with services that will increase or help to maintain mobility skills and maximize independence in daily living activities. Our rehab aide will also take over where our licensed therapists leave off, making sure that progress made through those services is maintained over time.

Todays elders are strong and active. With the help of our restorative programs, residents are walking, exercising, and doing weight training.

Our goal is to help each resident reach and maintain their maximum potential.
